About Me

Austin McKenzie is currently studying to become a librarian online at the University of Missouri with the goal of graduating with a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS). He earned a M.A. in Military Operational Art and Science from the Air Command and Staff College in 2023 and a B.S. in Economics from the United States Air Force Academy.
Austin grew up in the Pacific Northwest but began serving in the U.S. Air Force at age 17 and has been stationed in California, Colorado, Louisiana, Wyoming and travels for work with some regularity. He has served in a variety of roles ranging from technical (working on VAX terminals) to supervisory (leading people). Known as a person who generates new Excel spreadsheets as a matter of course, Austin is excited to see where libraries might go in adopting linked data and discovery platforms. He also is keenly interested in preserving intellectual freedom and privacy rights so that his 2 daughters may learn more and read even more stories than he has! He would like to one day work in a public or state library.
